Essential oils are compounds that originated from various potentially beneficial plants. Each oil has its distinct aroma due to its unique aromatic components. These essential oils are used for multiple purposes but do you suppose you can use them in your air purifier?
Most air purifiers are not equipped for use with essential oils. So you cannot add the oil since there is no space for it. Simply put, oils and perfumes aren’t typically compatible with air cleaners. You will need a specialized air purifier to properly use essential oils.
Diffusers and air revitalizers, on the other hand, were designed to diffuse essential oils. Although air purifiers are meant to purify the air and remove contaminants from the atmosphere, introducing fragrance to it is a bad idea. Read more on this article to know the incompatibility of essential oil to an air purifier.
Can You Add Essential Oils To An Air Purifier Filter?
Essential oils shouldn’t be used with air purifier filters since they can cause clogging. However, if you insist on adding essential oil to an air purifier, you would need to acquire one compatible with it. Therefore, don’t add essential oils to the regular air purifiers because they won’t work.
However, if you wish to use an air purifier and essential oil in it, you can do the following options:
- Buy an oil diffuser and an air purifier (two separate machines)
- Purchase an air purifier that also functions as an oil diffuser (a water-based air purifier or an air purifier with a fragrance sponge)
Can You Add Essential Oils To An Air Purifier?
Essential oils aren’t recommended on regular air purifiers, but some air purifiers are designed specifically for oil use. These include cleaners like water-based air purifiers and air washers. In addition, essential oils can be used in air purifiers with sponges to store the essential oils.
What Essential Oil Is Good For Air Purifiers?
Essential oils can be used for various purposes, and you can pick your oil based on what smells you prefer. However, many air purifiers can be filled with perfumes and other non-essential oil products, and it distributes such scents as well.
There are many other fantastic essential oils you may use in your air purifier. However, seven drops of lemongrass and five drops of orange are my all-time favorite oils to use in air purifiers. It’s difficult not to smile when you smell the fragrance.
Here is a list of some of my favorites oil fragrances:
- Lemongrass
- Orange
- Lemon
- Lavender
- Peppermint
Of course, there are more essential oils, but those are my favorites. However, be aware that peppermint might be overpowering. Therefore, use it with caution and start with only a few drops.
If you’re interested in purchasing essential oils, you can visit your local store or order online.
How Do You Use An Air Purifier With Essential Oil?
If you’re wondering how to add essential oils to your air purifier, I’ll tell you it’s a lot easier than you think.
Apply 15 to 20 drops of your chosen essential oil to your air purifier sponge directly. It makes no difference whether the side of the sponge is filled with drips. The oils will combine with the water as it spins, and the aroma will slowly but steadily release.
Don’t constrain your drops to a single location. Instead, spread them out to cover the channels surface of your purifier sponge. You can add a few more drops if you want a deeper aroma.
Things get a bit tricky when utilizing an air purifier with a fragrance sponge. Now, all you have to do is find the fragrance sponge, which might be on top of your air purifier. Once you’ve identified it, you can either remove it to add your essential oil or add it just where it is.
Furthermore, be extremely cautious if you wish to apply essential oils while the sponge is in the air purifier. This is because spilling oils into the air purifier is not healthy for your machine.
However, I prefer to use essential oil in air purifiers than a water-based air purifier. I’m not sure about the science, but I’m positive water-based units can perform more with less oil.
How Much Essential Oil Do I Put In My Air Purifier?
Fleck 5-8 drops of the essential oil of your choice into the water basin of a water-based air purifier. The oils will combine with the water as it spins, releasing the aroma slowly.
Benefits Of Air Purifier And Essential Oil Diffuser
There are various advantages to using an air purifier and an essential oil diffuser. To begin with, it catches and eliminates 99.97% of airborne pollutants. However, the presence of a robust filtration system, which incorporates a True or medical-grade H13 HEPA filter, allows it to do so.
Secondly, it disperses clean, fresh air and a pleasant smell. The strong filtration system circulates clean air around the room to eliminate impurities. When fresh air passes through the aroma cap, it picks up the scent of the essential oils.
This makes your place smell wonderful, thanks to the aroma. Furthermore, essential oils help to improve long-term memory and mood. This is because essential oils stimulate sections of your limbic system when you breathe its scent.
This portion of the brain controls the olfactory system, physical functions, long-term memory, and emotions. It could explain why certain scents elicit strong emotions and memories.
In addition, CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) claims that asthma affects one out of 12 persons. Asthmatics patients have bronchial passages that are irritated.
In addition, pollutants such asmold, dust mites, pollen, and pet dander irritate their airways when they breathe them in. This makes it harder to breathe. However, Air purifiers capture these toxins in the air and doing so helps to ease the symptoms of asthma and allergies.

This is to guarantee it diffuses essential oils in the air. Replace the cap on the air purifier and turn it on. The essential oil aroma will flow with air movement as the purifier operates, filling the space with your preferred scent.
Remember that you shouldn’t mix the essential oil in the purifier. Before utilizing a new essential oil, make sure the scent pad is clean.
Its Three-Stage Filtration System
The air purifier encompasses a three-stage filtering system: a polyester pre-filter, H13 True HEPA filter, and activated carbon filter makeup.
The first line of defense is the pre-filter. Hair, lint, fibers, and pet fur are all trapped by the pre-filter. It also captures big particles and extends the life span of the True H13 HEPA filter.
Furthermore, the H13 True HEPA filter is the second line of protection. It also helps to know that pollutants the size of 0.3 microns are filtered at the rate of 99.97%.
Dust, mold, pet dander, pollen, and other airborne particles are trapped by the filter. Additionally, there’s an activated carbon filter. It’s made of granular charcoal, which absorbs scents such as tobacco smoke, chemicals VOCs, and pet odors.
Two filters use the three-stage filtration technology to purify your air. Each has a 6 to 8 months lifespan.
Noise and Performance
The air purifier’s CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) is 41cfm. It has a cleaning capacity of 150 square feet which it can clean twice in an hour. The manufacturer recommends running the purifier at high speed for 15 to 20 minutes before using it at a low rate for optimal results.
The sound level of the unit is 24 dB at low speed. This is quieter than a whisper, with a decibel level of 25dB. You will not be aware that the machine is functioning while you sleep.

There are three fan speeds on the air purifier, and they produce 59dB at their peak fan speed. At 60 decibels, this is quieter than a normal conversation but louder than the usual household noise.

Note that the unit doesn’t include any essential oils. You must purchase them either online or in a physical store.
System of Filtration
The unit includes a robust filtering mechanism in addition to the aroma design. As a single filter, this system is accessible.
The True HEPA filter captures 99.97% of contaminants with a diameter of 0.3 microns. Pollen, which causes a sore throat and a runny nose, can also be trapped inside. It can also trap fine dust, mold, pet dander, and other impurities.
Furthermore, it also features an activated carbon, which adsorbs chemicals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). As a result, Partu catches wildfire and cigarette smoke and gasses and aromas from pets and cooking.
The manufacturer recommends examining the filter’s colour to see if it is purifying the air. A new white filter has been introduced, and it has a 3 to 6month lifespan. However, this depends on the air quality in your home and how often you use the purifier.
